Have you ever just finished reading a really great book and wished that you could broadcast the recommendation to everyone you know and even to perfect strangers?! Good reads do that to you- stir your hearts, find your inner voice, hold your breath in anticipation and basically makes you pump your fist and say "That was a shiok (Singapore slang for great) read!"

Well, this is a platform for us to share these great experiences with one another! All too often, we read a superb book and do not have the chance to pen down our thoughts and to recommend it to someone else. Do that now, by dropping us an email at bookpicks4all@gmail.com so that we can post it on this blog.

Do, however, bear in mind that kids as well as adults read this blog, so do be discerning in your recommendation, choosing only wholesome and noteworthy reads. Much thanks to all and happy reviewing!

First book - From Alice to Zen by Elizabeth Atkinson

This is a book I borrowed from the library recently. It's about a girl called Alice Bunt, a real tomboy & a sports fanatic, who just moves house from Boston. She soon finds a kid around her age, Zenithal Stevie Wonder Malinowski (Zen for short). Zen is a weird boy who loves reading fashion magazines & Motown music, which gives Alice a hard time understanding his unusual personality. As middle school approaches, Zen tries to help get Alice ready by deciding her outfit & choosing which friends she should hang out with. Alice ends up with Haley and Yvette, the 2 most popular girls in the school. Soon, Alice finds out that Zen is the "loner" in the school & is looked down on by the other students. Will Alice find out her true friends or will she have to put up with the popular girls' unreasonable ways?

I really like this book as there is a bit of humour in it as well a lesson on friendship. The way Zen talks about the "latest fashion" & tries to help Alice really seems unreal for a boy, which makes you want to laugh out loud when you read it. You can also empathize with Alice as she tries to fit in at school & tries to be cool like her "friends". I think this is a good book for teens like me, especially those who have friendship problems. This book will show you what a true friend is & how you should stand up for those you care for, even though others may not agree.

I hope you will enjoy this book as much as I did. Please tell me your views & comments so that we can share great books together!
