Have you ever just finished reading a really great book and wished that you could broadcast the recommendation to everyone you know and even to perfect strangers?! Good reads do that to you- stir your hearts, find your inner voice, hold your breath in anticipation and basically makes you pump your fist and say "That was a shiok (Singapore slang for great) read!"

Well, this is a platform for us to share these great experiences with one another! All too often, we read a superb book and do not have the chance to pen down our thoughts and to recommend it to someone else. Do that now, by dropping us an email at bookpicks4all@gmail.com so that we can post it on this blog.

Do, however, bear in mind that kids as well as adults read this blog, so do be discerning in your recommendation, choosing only wholesome and noteworthy reads. Much thanks to all and happy reviewing!

Enchanting Author- Sarah Addison Allen

If you have read any of this author's books, you would know that she always have enchanting food and a touch of spells in her writing! For me, to read about the delicious-sounding foods always make my tummy rumble and makes me wonder if the epitome of cooking great food is when the people who eat them feel as if a spell has been cast upon them!

What I like about this author is that in her stories, there is always a central point of suspense, involving characters who are a little quirky and often just need a kindred soul who can see them for who they are and love them. Often they battle with inner wars, which we can all relate to, like inferiority, grief, rejection and throughout the book, see themselves emerging stronger and wiser. The point of suspense eventually explains itself in a subtle way, often with the characters' gradual realisation and acceptance of themselves. Hence, reading the book is often cathartic (discharging of pent-up emotions) for me. Whoa!

Anyway, this book is one of her few books. (Only 4, i think!) It is a captivating read, I finished it over 2 days and practically ignoring my girls in the process! (oops!) Heartwarming at times with witty humour peppered along the way. A jolly good read! Check it out at the library and if you can find it, you are in for a treat! (at least in my opinion, feel free to let me know what you think!)

For the rest of the hols, we may write more but things may slow down  when the new year begins! (Drats!) Till then, enjoy reading everyday! (Just don't be so obsessive like me!)  ;)
